Bangladesh’s draft Renewable Energy Policy 2025, released earlier this month, proposes significant incentives for renewable energy development. Key highlights include:
- Import Duty Exemption: Renewable energy components and raw materials will be exempt from import duties.
- Tax Holidays: Projects commissioned between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2030, will enjoy a 10-year full corporate income tax exemption, followed by a 50% reduction for the next 3 years and a 25% reduction for the following 2 years.
- Stamp Duty Exemption: Renewable energy investors will be exempt from stamp duty.
- Carbon Trading Incentives: A carbon trading mechanism will be introduced to encourage green energy adoption.
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): The government will promote BESS and other storage systems to integrate more renewable energy into the grid.
This policy, open for public consultation until February 24, 2025, will take effect upon official gazette publication.
