Solar battery convert solar energy into reliable 24x7 power. Battery energy storage is the key to transforming our society to 100% renewable energy.
Energy storage system
In most cases, instead of providing homeowners with their own solar cells, homeowners are provided with a complete home storage system. Leading products like the Tesla Powerwall and Sonnen eco do include battery packs, but not only that. They also contain battery management systems, battery inverters, battery chargers, and software-based controls that allow you to control how and when these products are charged and discharged.
All of these newer all-in-one home energy storage and energy management systems use lithium-ion battery technology, so if your home is connected to the grid and looking for a solar battery storage solution, you no longer need to think about battery chemistry technology. Once, flooded lead-acid battery technology was the most common solar battery pack for off-grid homes, but today there are no turnkey home energy management solutions using lead-acid batteries.
Why is Li-ion battery technology so popular right now?
The core advantage of lithium-ion battery technology, which has been adopted almost unanimously in recent years, is its higher energy density and no outgassing.
The high energy density means they can store more electricity per cubic inch of space than the deep-cycle lead-acid batteries traditionally used in off-grid solar systems. This makes it easier to install batteries in homes and garages where space is limited. This is also a key reason why they are favored in other applications such as electric vehicles, laptop batteries and cell phone batteries. In all of these applications, the physical size of the battery pack is a critical issue.
Another big reason for the dominance of lithium-ion solar cells is that they do not emit toxic gases, so they can be installed in homes. Older lead-acid deep-cycle batteries traditionally used in off-grid solar power systems do have the potential to emit toxic gases and must be housed in separate battery enclosures. In effect, this opens up a mass market that previously didn't have lead-acid batteries. We believe this trend is now irreversible, as all the electronics and software used to manage these home energy storage solutions are now being built to accommodate lithium-ion battery technology.
